Summer is the season of outward expression, connection, activity, and celebration. The long days, warm temperatures and abundant light invite us to embrace joy, action, and community while staying mindful of the need for hydration, rest and balance.
Work and life projects
Summer is the season of full bloom. It's a time for momentum, visibility and action. Think of the projects, relationships and habits you planted in spring. Now is the time to let them grow, flourish and bear fruit.
Things to do:
Take action
Use the vibrant energy of summer to move your goals forward. It's a time to launch, promote, connect and celebrate progress.
Stay focused
With the high energy of the season, it's easy to become scattered. Choose one or two key projects to focus on and pour your energy into them.
Celebrate your wins
Summer is a natural time for celebration. Whether personal or professional, make space to acknowledge your achievements with joy and gratitude.
Reflect in nature
While summer is action packed, moments of stillness can help you stay grounded. Take your reflections outdoors journal under a tree, walk at sunrise or sun set or sit by water.
Revisit your desired feelings
Reconnect with how you want to feel. Using Danielle LaPorte’s Desire Map, you might ask: How do I want to feel this summer? What actions, people, or environments evoke that feeling?
Your environment
Summer is all about lightness, brightness and action. Bring elements into your space that support creativity, motivation, openness and joy.
Things to do:
Declutter and simplify
You may have done some Spring cleaning already – keep going! Create open, airy spaces that allow fresh energy to move freely.
Let fresh air and light in
Open windows, pull back blinds and curtains, clean your windows. Let natural sunlight uplift your mood and space.
Use fresh, vibrant colours
Think blues, greens, citrus tones and crisp whites. Add them through flowers, plants and interior / exterior accessories like cushions, tablecloths, napkins, candles and artwork.
Bring nature indoors
Decorate with fresh flowers, green leafy stems or a bowl of summer fruit to remind you of nature’s abundance.
Create social spaces
Set up inviting spots for conversation and gatherings, both indoors and out.
Your diet
Nature provides cooling, hydrating, and energising foods for Summer. Lighten up your meals and enjoy an abundance of fresh, seasonal produce.
Things to do:
Eat cooling, water-rich foods
Focus on raw and lightly cooked vegetables, salads, fruits, and herbs. Try:
Vegetables: leafy greens, lettuce, cucumber, celery, peas, fennel, tomatoes, courgette, peppers
Fruit: citrus, watermelon, berries, mangoes, stone fruits
Grains: quinoa, couscous, bulgur, rice noodles
Proteins: fish, chicken, tofu, legumes
Herbs & spices: mint, basil, coriander, dill
Stay hydrated
Drink water throughout the day. Try adding cucumber, lemon, lime, berries, lemon balm or mint for an extra refresh.
Enjoy iced herbal teas: peppermint, lemon balm and hibiscus
Minimise heating foods
Limit excess alcohol, red meat, deep fried foods and overly spicy dishes as these increase internal heat and can lead to irritability or fatigue.
Support your digestion
Try fermented foods like kimchi, sauerkraut or yoghurt..
Movement
Summer is about moving, playing and connecting. So be mindful to also rest and protect our energy during the hottest parts of the day.
Things to do:
Exercise early or late to beat the heat
Try morning or evening: gardening; sport; walks; swims; dancing at a festival; stretching outside; cloud or star gazing.
Balance activity with rest
Summer’s energy is high so burnout can happen if you are burning your candle at both ends. Schedule downtime, especially during peak heat.
Stay social
Connection is essential for wellbeing. Host a picnic / BBQ, attend outdoor events with friends, play a sport together, do some volunteer gardening or maintenance work.
Listen to your body
If you feel drained or flustered, cool off, hydrate and rest.
Over to you
How will you embrace the energy of Summer? I’d love to hear in the comments.
